Same-day repair and replacement for cracked, leaking, or failed backflow preventers.

The backflow preventer is the device that keeps irrigation water from flowing back into your drinking water supply. It's required by code in most North Texas cities, and it's the single most common thing we see damaged by freezes. We repair and replace all the common types: pressure vacuum breakers (PVB), reduced pressure zone assemblies (RPZ), and double-check valves. If yours is leaking from the relief valve, won't hold pressure, or was cracked by a freeze, we can usually fix or replace it the same day. We see most of this damage in February and March after hard freezes, and if your backflow wasn't properly drained during winterization, freeze damage is nearly certain.
If any of these sound familiar, it's time to call.
"Visible leak from the body, bonnet, or test cocks"
A visible leak means internal components have failed or the brass body is cracked. Water is being wasted continuously, and if it's a cracked body, the unit cannot be repaired, only replaced. We assess and fix or replace the same day in most cases.
"A hairline or obvious crack in the backflow housing"
Almost always caused by freeze damage during a North Texas winter. A cracked body can't be repaired, water expansion during the freeze stretched the brass beyond its tolerance. We replace the unit with a code-compliant equivalent and handle the city registration if required.
"Water continuously dripping from the small valve on the side of the backflow"
This is almost always a failed internal check valve or worn seal. It's a repair, not a replacement. Catch it early before minor wear becomes a cracked diaphragm or a failed test.
"Your backflow wasn't properly drained before a sub-freezing night"
Any backflow that wasn't drained and insulated before a hard freeze has likely sustained internal damage, even if nothing is visibly wrong yet. We pressure-test to confirm and replace damaged components before you get a full failure in the middle of summer.
"Your annual backflow test came back with a failing report"
Most North Texas cities require annual backflow testing. A failed test means the unit needs repair or replacement before the system can legally operate. We diagnose the specific failure, repair or replace the affected components, and retest so you pass the next inspection.
One of the most common backflow brands in North Texas. We stock repair kits for 765 and 860 series PVB and RPZ units on every truck.
We also diagnose and service Zurn Wilkins 720A and 975XL units, widely installed across our service area. We carry rebuild kits and full replacement units.
We also diagnose and service Watts 800 series PVB, 909 RPZ, and 719 double-check backflow preventers for residential irrigation systems.
We also diagnose and service Apollo and Conbraco backflow preventers, replacing with equivalent code-compliant units when original parts are unavailable.
No hidden fees. No surprises. Here's exactly what's covered.
Backflow preventer inspection and diagnosis
Relief valve, check valve, and seal replacement
Full unit replacement when repair isn't viable
Pressure testing after repair
Insulation wrap for freeze protection
We examine the backflow preventer for cracks, leaks, and internal component failures, checking the relief valve, check valves, seals, and brass body.
If the brass body is intact, we repair internal components (check valves, seals, relief valve) at a fraction of replacement cost. If the body is cracked, we recommend full replacement.
We perform the repair or install the new unit, PVB, RPZ, or double-check valve depending on your system and local code requirements.
We pressure-test the repaired or replaced backflow preventer to confirm it holds and operates correctly, ensuring it will pass city inspection.
"I had the pleasure to ask Carlos to add new zone for my lawn, used to be connected to dropping system and fixed the foundation dripping water line, they were efficient, great quality, super nice work and clean up after…"
"Carlos Baltazar was very helpful and professional. It was a pleasure working with him. He was very knowledgeable and walked us through the whole process. He is truly a great asset to your team!"
"Carlos from Carson Irrigation & Drainage came to fix several broken sprinkler heads in my yard. He was on time, professional, and explained everything he was doing. He replaced the damaged heads and adjusted the system…"
The most common cause is freeze damage, water inside the unit expands and cracks the brass body or damages internal seals. Other causes include worn check valves, debris in the relief valve, and normal wear over 8–10 years.
Yes, most North Texas cities require a backflow prevention device on any irrigation system connected to the municipal water supply. It prevents contaminated irrigation water from flowing back into drinking water lines.
If the brass body is cracked, it needs full replacement. If the internal components (check valves, relief valve, seals) are the issue, repair is usually possible and much cheaper. We assess and recommend the most cost-effective option.
Proper winterization is the best protection. We drain the unit completely and insulate it during our winterization service. If you missed winterization, an insulated backflow cover helps but isn't a guarantee against hard freezes below 25°F.
Most North Texas cities require annual backflow testing by a certified tester. Even if your city doesn't enforce it strictly, we recommend an annual inspection, especially after winter. Backflow preventers take the most abuse from freezing weather, and a small internal leak can go unnoticed until your next city test or until contaminated water becomes a health issue. We can inspect your backflow during any service visit.
Depends on what's wrong. If the internal components are the issue (check valves, seals, relief valve), a repair is usually the right call. If the brass body is cracked from freeze damage, replacement is the only option because you can't repair a split body. We always assess repair viability first and recommend the most cost-effective path. Call us and we'll take a look.
Backflow preventers are the single most freeze-vulnerable part of any North Texas irrigation system. The 2021 hard freeze destroyed thousands of them across the region, and every winter brings more. We replace with code-compliant units and handle the city registration paperwork.
